2017 LAW FORUM CONFERENCE

On 25 April 2016, the annual Law Forum conference was held at the Radisson Blu Carlton, with SOUKENÍK – ŠTRPKA Law Firm founding partner Peter Štrpka taking the floor.

Peter Štrpka led a panel discussion on changes since the 2016 election that also featured Minister of Justice Lucia Žitňanská and Katarína Javorčíková, judge and president of the civic association Judges for Open Justice.

The discussion centred on an assessment of amendments issued by the Ministry of Justice, particularly the reforms of law enforcement, personal bankruptcies and laws against shell corporations. Speakers also discussed changes in laws governing the status of judges and proposed amendments to the Commercial Code.

Štrpka also spoke about the applied practice legislative changes at the Ministry of Justice, about whether it was a sibylline prophecy or a Sisyphean task.  On the one hand, he welcomed the positive stance taken in the new legislation, while pointing to issues not yet resolved.
